Songs for organisations

Songs that move people to act

I write original songs for organisations, movements and events — about hope, connection and a living future.

A song reaches people where a report or a slide deck can't: heart to heart. I work story-first — from a conversation about what you stand for, to lyrics, to a finished recording or a live performance. Here is some of the work I've made for others.

Wie de Toekomst Ziet

Wie de Toekomst Ziet — artwork

Written as the closing song for Our Future On Earth, the immersive theatre show touring the Netherlands. It's the fastest song I've ever written: after an interview with the organisation, I wrote the lyrics the very next day on the train to Berlin, demoed it there with Julian Bohn and Florian Broegge, with drums recorded in New York by Jordan Rose. A song about interconnection — alles raakt aan alles.

Live video coming soon.

I Am For You Are

Written especially for the 25th anniversary of the Earth Charter and performed at the Peace Palace (Vredespaleis) in The Hague — a five-minute spoken story, followed by the song. It's inspired by Ubuntu, the Southern-African philosophy "I am because you are": a worldview of interconnection and shared humanity, in contrast to Descartes' "I think, therefore I am." A song for the quiet menders — and a reminder that you are not alone.

So full of wonder, I open my eyes And see in yours, the sun and the sky Tell me why do we fight, while we're feeling alone? While the same stardust built our bones The breath we exhale, into the unknown A sacred order without any thrones Some ancient reminder beneath every scar I am, for you are For you are We silence the wise ones and worship success Men in tall towers puffing their chests Is it really true that the strongest survive? While the kindest are keeping the flame alive The ones who mend what others discard Who carry the names, the bruises, the scars Lifting their heads up at the stars I am, for you are For you are I am, I am, for you are, for you are I am, I am, for you are, for you are The mother grows quiet, her rivers run dry We ask for the fruit, while we poison the sky How can we keep on depleting her ground? Wondering why the silence has grown so loud The quiet hands that hold, that mend That plant the seeds and wait, and tend They know their harvest is both near and far I am, for you are For you are I am, I am, for you are, for you are I am, I am, for you are, for you are Now draw a bit closer, see what we find When we open our eyes, and with it our minds No lines on maps can drive us apart I am, for you are For you are

No Music on a Dead Planet

My master's thesis (Conservatorium van Amsterdam, 2022), nominated for the AHK Eindwerkprijs — a practical, four-step guide for artists to lower the ecological footprint of touring, releasing music and making merch. Graded 9.5, and printed sustainably on agricultural-waste paper with biodegradable ink. The research grew into co-founding Music Declares Emergency Netherlands.

Jury (Blanka Pesja): "This research is highly relevant for field development and beyond — a call to actively engage with this practical guide."
